Mandaue City's Transition

Mandaue City's Transition

History of Mandaue

     City

A community was established in Mandaue by a flourishing group of Austronesian people. The Venetian chronicler Antonio Pigafetta wrote of a settlement called Mandani which existed in the area with a chieftain named Apo Noan then a few decades later another ruler named Lam Busan. Mandaue natives were forced into a town as decreed by the Spanish authorities. This may have started off as a mission village (which included present day ConsolacionLiloan and Poro) serving as a bulwark for the church in the northern Cebu and was managed by the Jesuit in 1638 then a century later by the Recollects. The Philippine revolution in 1898 gave the town a new form of administration in accordance with the organic decree of the Central Revolutionary Government. The short-lived revolution was overthrown by the American Troops and a battle nearly destroyed the town in 1901, killing Presidente Benito Ceniza. Mandaue became independent from being an American Commonwealth and a Japanese Garrison on July 4, 1946 along with the entire nation. Mandaue became a chartered city on June 21, 1969 by Mayor Demetrio Cortes Sr. The city was recognized as a HUC (Highly Urban City) on 1991.

Before, there were only few malls and buildings that can be found in Mandaue City. But as the years go on, there are many malls and still building more malls in Mandaue. Here are some of the examples of malls and buildings that can be found in Mandaue:

And for the Mandauehanons safety in the roads, Mayor Jonas Cortes put several CCTV Cameras around the Mandaue Public Roads. Through this, Mandaue City government will be aware about the things happening in the road and it is monitored daily. And there is a big screen where they can see the different places where the CCTV Cameras are placed.
